Taghazout
If you’re planning your first surf trip, Taghazout is where I’d stay.
I spent almost a month here and completely understand why it’s considered Morocco’s surf capital. The town is full of surf camps, rooftop cafés, smoothie bowls, little shops, and surfers from all over the world.
One of my favorite things was surfing in the morning, grabbing lunch overlooking the ocean, then ending the day watching the sunset from a rooftop café.
It’s laid-back, welcoming, and honestly just a really fun place to spend a few days… or a month. 😂
Tamraght
Tamraght is only a few minutes from Taghazout, but it feels much quieter.
If you’re looking for a slower pace, boutique accommodations, and fewer crowds, you’ll probably love it here. It’s the kind of place where you surf all morning and spend the afternoon reading a book at a café.
Imsouane
Imsouane is famous for having one of the longest waves in Africa.
The town is much smaller than Taghazout, making it perfect if your only goal is surfing, eating, sleeping, and doing it all over again the next day.
Essaouira
Essaouira offers a completely different experience.
The waves can be windier, but you’ll also find a beautiful medina, incredible seafood, colorful fishing boats, and so much history. It’s a great place if you want to combine surfing with sightseeing.

Taghazout Life
This is where I stayed for a couple of weeks, and I’d absolutely book it again.
The rooftop overlooking the ocean quickly became my favorite spot. The Moroccan food was honestly incredible. They also offer yoga classes throughout the week, surf lessons, and both dorms and private rooms.
Because it’s a smaller guesthouse, rooms sell out quickly, so definitely book ahead.
