This 7 day Egypt itinerary is perfect for first-time visitors who want to experience the highlights without feeling completely exhausted. You’ll see Cairo, Giza, Luxor, and Aswan. Plus, you’ll still have time to slow down and actually enjoy the experience instead of running from one site to the next.
Personally, I think the best trips combine a little structure with plenty of freedom. I love having guides because there’s no way I’m standing in front of thousands of years of history without asking a million questions. At the same time, I always leave room to wander, sit at a café, and let a little magic happen.
Is This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary Enough?
Yes, absolutely. Will you see every single thing Egypt has to offer? Not even close. Honestly, if it were up to me, I’d spend weeks exploring Egypt. Still, seven days is enough to experience some of the most incredible places in the country.
For first-time visitors, I think Cairo, Giza, Luxor, and Aswan offer the perfect combination. You get ancient history, amazing food, beautiful Nile views, and enough variety to really appreciate what makes Egypt so special.
I also think doing a mix of guided tours and exploring on your own is the sweet spot. Guides bring the history to life. Meanwhile, free time gives you space to stumble into little coffee shops, markets, and moments you never planned for.

After a long travel day, don’t try to do too much. Trust me. Egypt will still be there tomorrow.
Personally, I love staying along the Nile. There’s just something about watching the feluccas drift by while the city buzzes around you. At night, the dinner cruises light up, music fills the air, and the entire river comes alive.
For luxury travelers, I love the Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza, St. Regis Cairo, and Kempinski Nile Hotel. They’re all fantastic choices and offer beautiful Nile views.
Your first night doesn’t need to be packed with activities. Grab dinner by the river, have a drink, and then go get some sleep. Tomorrow is when the adventure really begins.

Day 2 of This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary: Explore the Pyramids of Giza
What’s the Best Way to Visit the Pyramids During This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary?
Get there early. Seriously. Not only will you beat the heat, especially during spring and summer, but you’ll avoid the huge crowds too.
Personally, I think hiring a private guide is worth every penny. You’ll learn so much more, and if your guide studied Egyptology, you’ll be able to ask all the questions your heart desires. It completely changes the experience.
Camel rides can be fun. However, I always encourage people to do their research and make sure the company they’re using treats the animals well. That’s important to me.
My favorite viewpoint is the panoramic viewpoint where you can see all three pyramids lined up together. Having a guide really helps because the complex is huge. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend trying to walk the entire thing.
Afterward, head to the Grand Egyptian Museum. So much time and money have gone into this place, and you would honestly be doing yourself a disservice by skipping it.

What Else Should You See During This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary?
Cairo has so much more to offer than just the pyramids. Honestly, I could spend weeks there and still find new places to explore.
Of course, the Grand Egyptian Museum deserves a spot on your itinerary. So much time and money have gone into this place, and it shows. I’ve visited the old Egyptian Museum many times over the years, but the GEM is on another level. Plus, it’s walking distance from the pyramids, which makes it easy to combine the two.
Later, head over to Khan El Khalili. Sure, it’s touristy. However, I still think it’s worth visiting. There are tons of little shops, cafés, and places to grab coffee or shisha. Just make sure you’ve got your bargaining skills ready because this is definitely the place to haggle.
One of my favorite areas in Cairo is Zamalek. It sits on an island in the Nile and feels very different from other parts of the city. There are great restaurants, cute coffee shops, gyms, spas, and plenty of locals out and about. I always enjoy spending time there.
For dinner, I highly recommend booking a dinner cruise on the Nile. There’s something special about seeing Cairo lit up from the water.
Day 4 of This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary: Fly to Luxor
Why Is Luxor a Must-Visit During This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary?
Luxor is absolutely incredible. Seriously. Between the East Bank and the West Bank, there are endless things to see. What’s even crazier is that archaeologists are still making discoveries there. That’s how rich this place is in history.
If you’re short on time, don’t skip Luxor. I know some people debate it, but I think it would be a huge mistake.
Start with Karnak Temple. It’s massive and honestly one of the most impressive sites in Egypt. I also loved Luxor Temple, especially in the evening. The atmosphere feels completely different after sunset.
As for hotels, I love Steinberger Nile Palace Luxor and Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa. Both are beautiful and make great places to relax after long days of exploring.

Day 5 of This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary: Valley of the Kings and Ancient Temples
Is the Valley of the Kings Worth It?
One thousand percent.
Start your morning very, very early with a hot air balloon ride. Yes, the wake-up call is brutal. However, watching the sun rise over Luxor is one of those experiences you’ll never forget.
Afterward, head to the Valley of the Kings. King Tut’s tomb is amazing, but so are many of the others. Depending on when you visit, different tombs will be open. The Egyptian government rotates access to help preserve them, which I think is really important.
You also have to visit Hatshepsut’s Temple. By the way, she was the first female pharaoh to rule Egypt with full power, and her story is fascinating. Having a guide really helps bring these places to life.
Before heading back, stop at the Colossi of Memnon and then enjoy dinner overlooking the Nile.
Day 6 of This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary: Explore Aswan
Is Aswan Worth Including in This 7 Day Egypt Itinerary?
Absolutely.
Compared to Cairo, Aswan feels slower and much more peaceful. I love Cairo, but Aswan has a different vibe. It’s quieter and just feels more relaxed.
Start by visiting Philae Temple. It’s beautiful and definitely worth your time. After that, slow things down. Take a felucca ride or simply enjoy being on the Nile.
If your budget allows, stay at Sofitel Legend Old Cataract. It might be one of my favorite hotels in Egypt. The views are stunning, and the history behind the property makes it even more special.
Personally, I think this is where you start appreciating the slower side of Egypt.

What Should You Do on Your Last Day?
Honestly, shop.
This is the perfect time to pick up gifts for friends and family. Unless you’re like me and you’ve already been buying things throughout the trip and now you’re carrying way too much stuff.
Egypt is a great place to buy gold. Just make sure you’re shopping at trusted stores and know what you’re looking for.
Your final day is also a good opportunity to revisit favorite cafés or restaurants. Maybe there’s something you didn’t get to do earlier in the trip.
As for the airport, Cairo traffic is no joke. Personally, I love booking flights after 10 PM. That way, I get one last full day in the city and avoid the worst traffic.

Is Luxury Egypt Expensive?
Honestly, Egypt can be surprisingly affordable. Luxury hotels usually range anywhere from $200 to $800 per night depending on the season.
Personally, I think private guides are worth every penny. I love being able to ask questions and have flexibility. Plus, if I want to spend more time somewhere or skip something entirely, I can.
That freedom is worth a lot to me.

If I had three or four extra days, I’d absolutely add either Hurghada or Siwa Oasis to this itinerary.
If you’re craving a beach escape after all the sightseeing, head to Hurghada. Spend your days relaxing at some of the best beaches in Hurghada, staying at one of the best hotels in Hurghada, or even trying diving in Hurghada if you’ve always wanted to explore the Red Sea.
If you’re looking for something completely different, make your way to Siwa Oasis Egypt. It’s one of the most peaceful places I’ve visited in the country. Between the famous salt pools, endless sand dunes, and laid-back atmosphere, it feels like a completely different side of Egypt.
Even without those extra stops, I still think this 7 day Egypt itinerary is perfect for first-time visitors. You’ll experience ancient history, incredible food, beautiful hotels, and memories you’ll be talking about for years.
And honestly… when is it ever a bad idea to splurge a little on a trip to Egypt? This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. You might as well make it unforgettable.
