If you’re thinking about diving in Hurghada, do it. I honestly think it’s some of the best diving in the world—and that’s coming from someone who’s dived in quite a few places.
Believe it or not, I actually did my very first dive in Egypt on the Red Sea. Since then, I’ve spent a lot of time diving and snorkeling here, and I still can’t get over how clear the water is. The coral reefs are beautiful, the fish are everywhere, and there are dive sites for every experience level.
Even if you’ve never scuba dived before, Hurghada is one of the best places to learn.

Why Is Diving in Hurghada So Special?
The Red Sea is what makes diving in Hurghada so incredible. The water is crystal clear, the coral reefs are healthy, and you don’t have to dive very deep before you’re surrounded by colorful marine life.
One of my favorite parts is never knowing what you’ll see next. Clownfish, butterflyfish, angelfish, parrotfish, rays, sea turtles… and if you’re really lucky, dolphins.
Visibility is usually amazing too. Most days you can see around 20 metres (65 feet), which makes spotting marine life so much easier.
Is Scuba Diving in Hurghada Good for Beginners?
Absolutely.
I did my first dive in Egypt, and I’d recommend scuba diving in Hurghada to anyone who’s been wanting to try it.
You don’t need a certification either. Most dive centers offer a Discover Scuba Dive where your instructor teaches you everything before heading into the water and stays with you the whole time.
I’ll be honest… breathing underwater feels weird at first. I was definitely nervous. But having a great instructor made all the difference, and after a few minutes I forgot I was even anxious.
Best Places for Diving in Hurghada
Giftun Island
Giftun Island is probably the most popular place to dive or snorkel in Hurghada, and after visiting, it’s easy to see why. The coral reefs are beautiful, the visibility is fantastic, and you might even spot a sea turtle.
Abu Ramada Reef
If you’re newer to diving, I’d recommend Abu Ramada Reef. The water is usually calm, and there’s so much colorful coral and marine life to see.
SS Thistlegorm
This is one of the most famous wreck dives in the world. It’s best for experienced, certified divers, but it’s one of those bucket-list dives people travel across the world to experience.
Don’t just take my word for it.
My Tips for Diving in Hurghada
Always book with a reputable dive center. Your safety is worth spending a little extra for experienced instructors and well-maintained equipment.
Please don’t touch the coral. I know it looks like a rock, but it’s actually a living organism. Plus, some coral, like fire coral, can give you a pretty painful surprise.
If you have a GoPro or underwater camera, bring it. You’ll be so glad you did.
And finally… don’t let your nerves stop you. Almost everyone feels nervous before their first dive. Once you’re underwater, it’s honestly one of the most peaceful experiences you’ll ever have.
Booking a Diving Trip in Hurghada
One of the best things about diving in Hurghada is how easy it is to organize.
Hurghada is relatively small, so most dive companies will pick you up directly from your hotel. Whether you’re staying in central Hurghada, Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay, or El Gouna, transportation is usually included or available for a small fee.
That means you can book the hotel you love without worrying about being close to a dive center.
