If you think you’ve already seen everything Egypt has to offer, think again. Siwa Oasis Egypt feels like a completely different world. Tucked away in the Western Desert near the Libyan border, it’s one of the most unique places I’ve ever visited in Egypt. You’ve probably seen the famous blue salt pools all over TikTok or Instagram, but trust me, they’re even more beautiful in person.
Unlike Cairo, Luxor, or Aswan, Siwa is slow, peaceful, and surrounded by endless sand dunes and palm trees. If you’re looking for a different side of Egypt, this is it.
If you’re wondering whether Siwa Oasis Egypt is worth adding to your itinerary, I’d say absolutely.

Short on Time?
Planning a trip to Siwa can take a bit of work. If you’d rather have everything organized for you, several 3-day tours from Cairo include transportation, accommodation, desert safaris, the salt pools, and many of Siwa’s top attractions.

Visit the Famous Siwa Oasis Salt Pools
The Siwa Oasis salt pools are easily the biggest reason people visit, and honestly, I get it. The water is so unbelievably blue against the desert backdrop that it almost doesn’t look real.
Because the water is packed with salt, you float without even trying. It’s probably the closest thing to floating on a cloud… or at least that’s what I imagine it feels like. 😂
Are the Siwa Oasis salt pools worth visiting?
One thousand percent. If you only have time for one thing in Siwa, make it this.

Explore Shali Fortress in Siwa Oasis Egypt
Walking through Shali Fortress honestly feels like stepping back in time. Close your eyes for a second and you’d swear you’ve landed in another century.
The entire village was built using mud bricks mixed with salt, making it one of the most unique historical sites in Egypt.
Why visit Shali Fortress?
Besides the history, the views from the top are incredible, especially around sunset.

Visit the Temple of the Oracle in Siwa Oasis Egypt
The Temple of the Oracle is one of the most famous historical sites in Siwa. It’s believed Alexander the Great traveled here to consult the Oracle of Amun.
Is the Temple of the Oracle worth visiting?
Absolutely. Even if you’re not a huge history lover, it’s fascinating and helps you understand just how important Siwa has been for thousands of years.

Go on a Desert Safari in Siwa Oasis Egypt
A desert safari is something you simply can’t skip.
Picture endless golden sand dunes that look straight out of a movie. Add in a thrilling 4×4 ride, sandboarding, and one of the most beautiful sunsets you’ll ever see.
If you’re lucky enough to catch a full moon out here… you’ll never forget it.
Would I recommend a desert safari?
Without a doubt. If you’re booking one tour in Siwa, make it this one.

Where Should You Stay in Siwa Oasis Egypt?
One of the things I love most about Siwa Oasis Egypt is that it hasn’t turned into a destination full of massive resorts.
Instead, you’ll find beautiful boutique hotels and eco-lodges that blend right into the landscape. It makes the whole experience feel much more authentic.
How many nights should you stay in Siwa Oasis Egypt?
I’d stay at least two or three nights. It takes a while to get here, and Siwa isn’t somewhere you should rush. I always like having an extra day to slow down, wander through cafés, watch the sunset, and actually enjoy the energy of a place instead of constantly moving.
Is Siwa Oasis Egypt Worth Visiting?
Without hesitation… yes.
Siwa Oasis Egypt feels completely different from the rest of the country. It’s peaceful, quiet, and unbelievably beautiful. It’s one of those places I always tell friends not to skip because it stays with you long after you leave.
Who shouldn’t visit Siwa Oasis Egypt?
If you’re only spending five or six days in Egypt, I’d focus on Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan first.
But if you have a little more time, Siwa is one of the most rewarding places you can add to your itinerary.
